education
Education
is central to Small Change's work. We believe that
both the participants and we gain from the dialogue offered
through education work. All members of Small Change
have experience of teaching and running workshops. These
aim to harness the students' creativity in imaginative and
thoughtful ways that engage with the world around them.
They aim to be fun and to promote participants' confidence
whilst encouraging them to experiment with new avenues with
which they may not be familiar. Workshops are practical
but we are always keen to encourage a detailed discussion
of work created and of how it affects both performer and
audience.
We
will tailor workshops to the specific requirements and dynamics
of groups so that they are as useful as possible to their
participants. We can cater for all levels of ability and
experience, but would see our work as being most useful
for GCSE age upwards.
We
recommend that workshops last at least two hours and preferably
three. Longer workshops and residencies are available on
request. The cost of a three hour workshop is £100
plus expenses. We would prefer a maximum of 25 participants.
To discuss workshops please contact Nic Fryer on 01234 402455.
"Many
thanks for the workshop …. [it] gave us loads of ideas
for developing our own devised piece. You gave us the confidence
to work with our own experiences and ideas rather than striving
after effect. It's good to be reminded that on stage less
'acting' often means more interesting to watch."
Leonie Pearce, Head of Drama, St Martins College Lancaster
"The
Small Change workshop engaged all our students in exploring
new ways into devising. It was pitched at the right level
for all concerned... It was also good fun for everyone and
the Small Change facilitators enabled everyone to relax
and enjoy the experience. "
